Mindfulness - Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy is an evidenced-based mental health treatment (or psychotherapy) that incorporates mindfulness skills and meditation practices into traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

While this treatment is effective for a range of clinical symptoms and distressing problems, it is recognized as an evidenced-based group treatment for recurrent or persistent depression.

One of the goals of MBCT is to treat depression and prevent relapse using mindfulness skills essential to building cognitive awareness and emotional distance from cyclical depressive thought patterns.  Such mindfulness skills like, nonjudgement, present-moment awareness, and enhanced observational skills improve one's ability to recognize and take an active role against unhelpful thought patterns that precede negative mood states.  By enhancing your ability to recognize the patterns of your mind (I.e. be a learner of your mind), you become more effective at using the CBT skills that require an ability to interrupt automatic negative thought processes and change maladaptive behaviors in order to modify mood states.

There are a variety of MBCT techniques Gorog Health utilizes including body scan exercise, yoga, walking, sitting meditations, sitting with thoughts, sitting with sounds, mindfulness stretching
